St. Simeon
the Stylite (Cilicia) St. Simeon the Stylite (Cilicia) was born in Cilicia in 390. He was the son of a shepherd, and from early youth he practiced the ascetic life. For some 20 years he lived in various hermitages in northern Syria. In 423 he began to live on a pillar at Telanissus, the height of the pillar being 60 feet. There he spent the remainder of his life. He died in 459. |
