St. Pelagia the Penitent (Antioch) St. Pelagia the Penitent (Antioch) was born in Antioch, was a notoriously licentious dancing-girl who caught the attention of Bishop Nonnus of Edessa. Hearing a sermon of the bishop, Pelagia repented and was baptized. She went to Jerusalem disguised as a man, and lived as a solitary on the Mount of Olives under the name of Pelagius. She died there in 457. |
