St. Ignatius of Antioch December 20
St. Ignatius of Antioch known as the “God-bearer” is celebrated for seven famous letters, which he wrote. Of Syrian origin, legend identified him with the child whom Christ set down among his disciples (Matthew 18: 1-6). He became the second successor of Apostle Peter as Bishop of Antioch. He was sentenced to death and sent to Rome to be thrown to wild beasts at the public games. He died in 107. |
