Parish History

Ss. Peter and Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church in Ben Lomond, California has its roots in the movement of the 70's and 80's which eventually became known as the Evangelical Orthodox Church.

In June 1984, four smaller churches (from neighboring communities San Ramon, Felton, Ben Lomond and Santa Cruz) came together to form the Evangelical Orthodox Church of Santa Cruz. The combined congregation moved into a newly purchased A-frame building on Highway 9 in Ben Lomond.

Joining with nineteen other churches throughout the United States, the Evangelical Orthodox Church focused its attention on entering into the historic Orthodox Church. This dream was realized in February 1987 when His Eminence Metropolitan PHILIP received the congregation into the Orthodox Church. Our parish is part of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America. It is one of the 15 archdioceses that composes the Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and all the East.

The Church of Antioch is headed by Patriarch IGNATIUS IV. In apostolic times, Antioch was the most important city in Asia Minor, "and it was in Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians" (Acts 11:26).
